Thursday’s Musical Education

Braid - The Right Time

I doubt you know who Braid is.  If you do you either 1) grew up in Illinois and like great music or 2) you were one of those damn emo kids I made fun of  in the late 90s (even though I like a lot of “emo” music - I hate labels).

Braid was from Urbana, Illinois which is home to the University of Illinois.  Not that is relevant to this post.  I spent some time in Champaign-Urbana in my college years and always had a good time there (too good of a time if you know what I mean…)  Braid broke up in 1999 which was unfortunate.  I as lucky enough to see them in DeKalb, IL once.  Someone caught it on video and now it’s on Youtube, which I think is cool to see.  There were no more than 30 of us at the show (okay there were probably more) and it was at a record store named “7 dead arson” which incidentally was owned by Denis Hastert’s kid.  Yeah, that Denny Hastert.  Crazy, eh?

Once again, I digress, and of course, no one truly “breaks up” anymore so they are back.  They still sound fantastic.  Welcome back guys.
