I can waste time on the interweb...this is one of the many ways I do it...

Running

I did a 5K running race this past weekend down in the Lewiston Clarkston Valley.  It was promoted by the LCSC cross country team.  It was kind of fun.  After doing it I decided I will most likely do another running event in February and possible a half marathon in March and maybe more later in the year.

My interest in running has come back to me after being fairly dormant for 19 years.  Okay…not really dormant.  More like non-existent.  My older brother has this plan of running the Chicago marathon this coming October.  I told him that if he did it I would do it too.  I have always said that I’d never do a marathon unless I was positive I could break three hours (set an unreasonable goal that you can’t attain is the easiest way to avoid a challenge) but now I’m really thinking hard about doing it.  I know I won’t break three hours and I’m okay with that.  Everyone else who participates in running “races” is happy that they finish.  They never really care about placing, so why should I?  This attitude really bugs me about recreational runners but I figure I’ll embrace it and go with it. When in Rome…

So we’ll see what happens with this running thing.  I hope it does not screw up my cycling season too much.  The plan (as of right now) is to train “slightly” for the half-marathon.  Running no more than two days a week and keeping the cycling season as my main focus.  The goal of the half-marathon is to qualify into “Group B” for the Chicago marathon.  If I am able to achieve that goal I will punt the second half of the cycling season and focus more on training for the marathon.  I’m not saying I won’t ride or race my bike, I’ll keep doing that, but running workouts will replace cycling workouts.  Right now cycling is the important goal and I was buried going into the 5K (I had a TSB around -40 for you geeks out there).

I tell my cycling friends that I’m a better runner than cyclist.  I also tell all the people that I have run against that I’m not a runner…I’m a cyclist.  The truth is I’m very mediocre at both.

I’ll keep my three readers posted on my progress.

Oh yeah…an observation.

Female Cycling butts are better than female running butts.  There.  I said it.  It’s true.
